Thoughts and Insights
Evet describes his developed preferences and approach to sound.
I've always had a fancy for things that are colorful, bright and harmonious. I've always loved the expressive sound of effects, which gives you a whole new dimension of possibilities. The sound of a great, edgy, chorused and echoed-out guitar gives me a deep insight into the depth of the universe.
Then there are the ways you can repeat and sequence phrases at incredible speeds, creating sweeping layers of sound. In songs, I often feel that my fast playing is more about creating walls of texture. I remember the early Kiss albums, which had cool effects on the instruments. Later, in New Wave—with bands such as Cocteau Twins and Siouxsie and the Banshees—effects became a whole new canvas.
With the GNX4, I can create cool presets and still have 8 GB of stored beats and creative presets. I have used it for more than ten years. I've had great success with DigiTech products, including the incredible GSP-2120. Combined with the ahead-of-its-time Vortex, I achieved some incredible tremolo effects, which I used on “Scorpionfish” and “Beauty and the Beast — du Nile Mix.”
My first guitar was a rich blue, Les Paul-style Vega, which I soon sprinkled with glow-in-the-dark paint. I got some great sounds from it, including my first recorded guitar solo. I soon acquired an Ibanez RG that I decorated with zebra stripes. Then I moved on to the new Ibanez of the time: a fluorescent orange RG570 with a pink DiMarzio MegaDrive pickup.
I played it for many years until I acquired a greyburst Ibanez RG570 QMSP. I love the guitar; it is the best I've owned. Guitar craftsmanship has developed to a whole new level for ease of playing and maintenance. I also have a seven-string Cort, my 12-string Washburn, a black Ibanez Soundgear 5 string bass, various mini and full-range MIDI keyboards.
I would love to get a good eight-string and some kind of MIDI guitar. I've seen some pretty cool LED models. Of course, I would love to design one; in fact, I have created various designs throughout the years.
